Commission the Artist

~ Christopher Wilke is currently accepting portrait & figurative art commissions.

At Christopher Wilke Studios we want to make your experience commissioning a painting as simple and satisfying as possible. We pride ourselves on putting our clients first and keeping your needs in mind, each and every step of the way. Whether you're commissioning figurative art, a family portrait, a portrait of your children or grandchildren, a portrait of yourself, or an elegantly posed nude, we are dedicated to keeping you comfortable and your experience positive and memorable.

Christopher Wilke has been creating exceptional portraits for his clients in photography as well as oil for the last twelve years while working for the largest companies and most exclusive studios, as well as taking private commissions. When you commission the artist to create your masterpiece, you are investing in an artist that has his feet firmly planted in tradition, and a professional dedicated to giving you the best.

~ What to Expect when Commissioning a Portrait

When you contact Christopher Wilke Studios you will be greeted by a member of our staff who will take notes on the type of artwork you are planning on having created. We will schedule a time for the artist to meet with you either personally in the space where the painting will hang, or by telephone. During this meeting the specifics of the commission will be sorted out, including size, dress, attitude, pose, expression and lighting, as well as framing options. The space that the work will hang will also be viewed and considered (you may send a picture by email if you choose the telephone consultation). A deposit of one third is required at this meeting in order for the artist to begin work.

Next, we will send you concept sketches and other samples to further the dialogue, and this will continue until an idea is hatched. We will then set up a time for a second meeting when Christopher Wilke and one assistant will take reference photos and create drawings for the final work. You will be able to view the images on the spot and discuss them with the artist.

When the work is about half finished we will send you images via email so that you can see the progress of the painting and discuss any details with the artist. Before the work is further completed, another deposit of one third is required.

When the painting is finished, dried, and framed we will contact you and set up an appointment when we will personally deliver the painting to you at the location that it will hang, and that will be when the final payment is due.

We prefer your first impression of the finished painting to be in person. Because of the artist's meticulous glazing techniques, something very special is lost in the translation to a digital photograph. (See The Process page for details.)
